Secondary 1 and Secondary 2: Cambridge English Progression Test

Secondary FIS has conducted Cambridge English Progression Test for Secondary 1 and Secondary 2 students. This English Progression Test has different purposes. For Secondary 1, the test aims to introduce students with a type of Cambridge test that will support them to excel in the coming learning. While for Secondary 2, it was their second attempt to prepare themselves for the Checkpoint Test in the future.

The format of the Progression Test mirrors Cambridge Checkpoint Test, encompassing Reading as well as Writing strands within the topic areas of Fiction and Non-Fiction. This exposure helps students become familiar with the structure, timing and types of questions they will encounter in that final stage test. Progression Test serves as a foundational experience, revealing the assessment process and building confidence for future academic challenges.

The repeated exposure to the Progression Test offers a valuable opportunity for growth and refinement. The test can be used to reflect on past performance, identify areas for improvement and strategically approach the various sections. This iterative process is crucial in solidifying their understanding of English language concepts and honing their test-taking strategies, ultimately setting them up for greater success in the Cambridge Checkpoint Test.

Beyond the immediate goal of preparing for Cambridge exams, the Progression Test also serves a broader purpose. It provides valuable diagnostic information for both students and teachers. For students, it highlights their strengths and weaknesses in different language skills, guiding their individual study efforts. For teachers, the results offer insights into the effectiveness of their curriculum and teaching methodologies, allowing for targeted interventions and personalised support to ensure all students are progressing effectively in their English language development. ***
