During toddler’s Learning Project “My Healthy Plate”, students continued their creativeness to choose and plan their own healthy plate that consist of fruits, vegetables, and protein. They selected their vegetables they wanted to include such as broccoli, corn, and carrot. They also chose watermelon, melon, and orange as the fruits. For the protein, they might choose either tofu, tempe, fish and chicken. Children were asked to consider the colour of the plate they would use. This session gave them opportunity to practice simple decision-making.
For the next day, toddlers began making their healthy plate based on their decision. At first, they coloured the food pictures (fruits, vegetables, and proteins) by crayoning and decorated the vegetable pictures by crumpling the wax paper. Then, they painted the paper plate using paintbrush according to their chosen colour. Further, children were encouraged to assemble their food ingredients in their plate. They used their imagination and creativity to paste the pictures. This activity helped students to develop their fine motor skills, creativity and imagination, critical thinking, and confidence to make their own decision and plan to create their simple “My Healthy Plate” artwork.
