For the Exit Point of our learning unit, “Around the World Trip,” the Toddler students participated in an exciting jungle and savanna adventure. The playground was transformed into a jungle and savanna environment filled with animal figures such as lions, elephants, tigers, monkeys, zebras, cheetahs, and giraffes. Using their spotter guides, students walked around the area and recalled and named the animals they found, showing excitement as they identified familiar figures in the different settings.
As the adventure continued, students began recognizing which animals belonged to the jungle and which belonged to the savanna, applying simple observation skills as they explored. Teachers then invited the students into a role-play where they acted as “experts,” guiding others through the jungle and savanna while explaining where they found each animal, using early reasoning and descriptive language.
To close the experience, students gathered to share their feelings and reflect on their adventure, talking about the animals they discovered and the parts of the playground they explored. Through this discussion, they were able to connect their earlier knowledge of animals with their hands-on exploration, showing the beginnings of extended thinking and deeper understanding. This Exit Point gave students a meaningful opportunity to explore, think, communicate, and reflect in a fun and engaging way.
