Toddler students participated in a learning activity focused on reading couplets that consist of colour words (red and yellow) and thematic vocabularies. Through the visual media such as pictures and flash cards, they learned to understand in reading the sight words as a symbol. Further, they also enriched the vocabularies based on the theme.
During the activity, toddlers were encouraged to repeat after teacher in mentioning the vocabulary words. Then, they were asked to participate in decorating the fish outline using paint. Here, they were able to choose different colours (red and yellow). Next, students were invited to paste the colour words that represent scales to the correct fish (based on the colour).
Through this art-making activity helps students to strengthen their vocabulary by recognising the pictures and matching the correct colour words based on the colour code. This activity serve the enjoyable and effective strategy to introduce students in reading the couplets.
