Primary 4 – Learning Festival: Fruit Salad Party

P4 students held a Fruit Salad party as one of the activities in L-Fest weeks. The students were divided into groups of 5 and each group was given the freedom to choose the fruits which they used for making salad. The party was conducted at P4 classrooms last week.

Fruit Salad party was chosen because it is still connected to the Learning Project theme, cultivating one of the rainforest products. Besides, the students also had a chance to practice for Stopover by working collaboratively as a team in preparing fruit salad.

During the preparation, P4 students had to communicate ideas and plans by choosing the fruits and dividing the responsibilities. The fruits chosen must be agreed by all members and they had to find a win-win solution for those who did not really like fruit salad. On the party day, they worked collaboratively and made sure that all the members could eat the fruit prepared. All groups decided to separate the mixed fruits and salad sauce. So, members who did not like fruit salad still could enjoy the mixed fresh fruit without its salad sauce.

Through the preparation, P4 students learned not only to communicate ideas but also to work collaboratively during the process as well as respect others’ preferences. P4 students also realized that when we respect and preserve the rainforest and nature, then they can provide almost all the basic things that human beings need in order to survive. By having this in mind, students can recall, take action, and even tell others to protect the environment. ***
