Primary 4 – Global Perspective: Knowing Layer of Rainforest through 3Rs (Research, Record, Reflect)

In GP lesson, P4 students explored the layers of the rainforest through the process of Research, Record, and Reflect. Each student was assigned one layer — the emergent, canopy, understory, or forest floor. They had to find the information about the special characteristics of their layer, such as its height, amount of sunlight, animals, plants, and plant adaptation.

Then, students recorded their information in the form of infographics. Here students were asked to organize their data. By organizing their data, students could clearly compare one layer to another and see how all layers are connected like puzzle pieces forming a living system.

Students followed the activity with great enthusiasm. Their curiosity grew as they explored new information during their research. They selected the most important data, made conclusions, and organized their findings into clear and creative infographics. The infographics presented the height, light condition, plants, animals, and plants adaptation in each layer. Through the recording time, their critical thinking was built. They practiced how to communicate the information they had gathered.

Students then reflected what had been learned. They realized that the disappearance of one layer could bring wider impacts – from disrupted water cycles and oxygen production to changes in global climate. They learned that protecting each layer means protecting the health of the entire Earth. This activity inspired them to be more responsible in taking care of nature for future generations.
