Book Reference Time (BRT) is a celebration of the series of activities that students have participated in as part of the Reading Program. In this Phase 2 event, EY1 and EY2 students joined with great enthusiasm. For EY1 students, this marks their second experience taking part in BRT. Both EY1 and EY2 students demonstrated confidence in sharing their thoughts and engaging in discussions with Reading Coaches about their books. Students interacted comfortably and confidently with Reading Coaches, who are teachers from different levels—EYP, Primary, and Secondary—even if they were meeting them for the first time.
Throughout BRT, students showed significant progress in their readiness, confidence, and comprehension of book content. This aligns with the objectives of the Reading Program, which not only aims to expose students to the joy of reading but also to stimulate their language skills and reading comprehension through engaging and enjoyable strategies. The students’ ability to express their thoughts, respond to questions, and discuss their books reflects the effectiveness of this approach in fostering early literacy development.
The long-term benefits of this program extend beyond the classroom, helping students develop a lifelong love for reading and strengthening their critical thinking and communication skills. To ensure the program achieves its intended goals, continuous support from parents remains essential. By maintaining a reading-friendly environment at home and encouraging discussions about books, parents can play a vital role in reinforcing the reading habits cultivated through this program.
