EY2 students were full of enthusiasm as they learned about shops—an important part of their community. In Mathematics, they practiced simple addition through a hands-on role-playing activity where they took on the roles of buyers and sellers in a mini-market.
In this activity, students “shopped” for two items, added up the prices, and practiced paying the correct amount at the cashier. They also learned about public etiquette by taking turns and queuing politely, reinforcing social skills in a real-world context.
These role-playing activities allowed children to connect their prior experiences with new mathematical concepts, making their learning more meaningful and engaging. By combining math with practical life skills, students gained a deeper understanding of both addition and everyday interactions in their community.***
