Early Year 2 – Entry Point: Sky Adventure

EY2 students began the day by recalling Mr Gumpy’s Motor Car, a story they already knew and loved. This time, the adventure continued — but instead of travelling by car, the children imagined Mr Gumpy and his friends soaring high into the sky. Together, they went to the playground to explore their surroundings. The children looked up and observed the blue sky, fluffy clouds, and the bright sun, while also spotting birds and small flying insects. They even hoped to see a real aeroplane or helicopter passing by, though none appeared that day.

To make their sky adventure more exciting, the children created their own paper aeroplanes using recycled paper from the classroom. They carefully followed the folding steps shown by the teacher, then joyfully tested how far their planes could fly. Laughter and excitement filled the air as they ran, retrieved, and launched their aeroplanes again and again.

Back in class, they learned new words — skycloudaeroplanehelicopterpilot, and airport — and shared which air transport they liked the most. Through this joyful experience, the children developed observation skills, fine motor coordination, and imaginative thinking. More importantly, they learned that curiosity and play can turn every simple moment into an opportunity to explore and learn about the world. ***
