EY2 students recently enjoyed a delightful outdoor learning experience as they explored the area around Shelter Manahan and the Stadium. Before setting off, teachers reminded the children about basic safety rules, such as walking in pairs, staying close to the group, and looking both ways before crossing small roads. It was a valuable opportunity to practise safety awareness in a real-life context.
As they walked, the children observed many things around them — houses, shops, food kiosks, restaurants, a mosque, the stadium, and a small park. Teachers introduced simple English sentences like “This is a shop” and “That is a mosque,” which the children repeated and used to describe what they saw. A highlight of the walk was when some students had the chance to buy buns from a nearby bakery — a fun and practical way to experience using everyday life skills.
Back in the classroom, the children drew pictures of the things they had seen and shared their experiences using simple English sentences such as, “I saw tall trees” or “I saw a bakery.” This reflection activity supported their language development, encouraged careful observation, and helped build confidence through real-world learning.
Through this simple walk, the children discovered that learning can happen anywhere — not just inside the classroom. It was a meaningful experience that brought together language, life skills, and an appreciation for the world around them in a fun and memorable way. ***
