Early Year 2 – Art and Math: Rhythmic DIY Drums

The EY2 students recently participated in an exciting hands-on activity focused on the 4Rs—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Refuse. In this creative project, they transformed old biscuit cans into colorful drums, highlighting both their artistic talents and resourcefulness.

Each student personalized their drum by decorating it with geometric shapes and drawings of their favorite things, making each creation uniquely their own. The joy on their faces as they proudly played their handmade drums was truly heartwarming. As they tapped out rhythms together, they also learned valuable lessons about teamwork and the beauty of creating music as a group.

This activity not only introduced the students to basic rhythm and musical concepts but also deepened their understanding of environmental responsibility. By repurposing everyday materials, they learned how to give new life to items that might otherwise be discarded. The combination of art, music, and environmental awareness made this experience a wonderful blend of creativity, education, and fun. The students left the session not only with new musical skills but also with a greater appreciation for sustainability and working together. ***
