Early Year 1 – Learning Project: My History Jar

From May 5–9, 2025, our EY1 students participated in an exciting five-day project called “My History Jar”, inspired by the idea of a time capsule. The week began with a video and discussion to introduce the concept of a history jar—what it is, what it might contain, and why people create them. Students then shared their thoughts through drawings and conversations.

Throughout the week, they explored materials, asked questions, and selected items that were meaningful to them. Each child decorated their own jar using colors, stickers, and craft supplies, then carefully packed their chosen items—such as a handprint, a photo, a drawing, a string measuring their height, and small objects from home. On the final day, students proudly presented their jars to the class and explained the stories behind their selections.

This project helped children reflect on their identity, strengthen communication skills, and understand how memories can be captured through everyday items. It also encouraged creativity, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for the passage of time. ***
