Our school recently hosted a lively Book Sharing Day, giving students a unique space to talk about their favourite reads. Unlike a typical BRT session, this event focused on open discussion, allowing students to stand up and share their thoughts in front of their peers and reading coaches. It was a refreshing change of pace that put the spotlight directly on the students’ personal reading journeys.
The discussion was led by a group of Reading Agents, who helped guide the conversation and kept the energy high. Every student had the chance to present the book they had recently finished, explaining what they liked and what they learned. This peer-led approach made the experience feel more like a book club among friends rather than a formal lesson.
Even though this was a new approach, the event ran smoothly. The students jumped right into the challenge of public speaking and shared their ideas with well. It was good to see how the dialogue flowed, proving that a little bit of creative freedom can go a long way in making reading more interactive and fun.
This Book Sharing Day provided clear evidence of the growing potential within our school’s Reading Program. By trying something different, we have discovered a strategy that truly resonates with students. We plan to use the success of this event to help us build even better programs in the future, ensuring that every student finds joy in sharing their love for books.
