Secondary 2 students learned to demonstrate the dissolution of a substance in water. The substances used were water, ice, and cooking oil. They observed by filling 3 beakers with the substances. The first beaker was filled with water, the second beaker was filled with half water and half cooking oil and the last beaker was filled with cooking oil. The pupils also put the ice on each beaker.
The result of the experiment showed that :
- The ice in the first beaker melted quickly,
- The ice in the second beaker melted more slowly,
- The ice in the third beaker was still frozen.
This experiment activity developed the students’ critical thinking and communication skills as they worked in groups. The students were very enthusiastic about doing this experiment. ***
