In Maths lesson Secondary 1 students were studying data handling, focusing on data collection methods, data processing, and data display.
Data handling is the process of gathering, recording, and interpreting data to answer questions or understand trends. Lessons and practice exercises were delivered step-by-step to aid comprehension. Students were also gaining real-world experience in collecting and processing data. In this activity, students were tasked with investigating people’s habits regarding cleanliness in public places. They selected several locations, including malls in Solo, sports stadiums in Manahan, train stations, Lokananta Bloc, and Taman Balekambang.
The students planned their visit schedules, drafted lists of questions, and processed the data collected at each location. They had the freedom to choose their preferred method of data collection, whether through interviews or questionnaires. The findings from their observations were being used as material for a persuasive speech in English class.
Through this activity, students were not only developing data handling skills but also deepening their understanding of the importance of maintaining a clean environment. It is hoped that they will become more aware of environmental issues and be motivated to contribute to creating a cleaner, healthier environment. ***
