Secondary 1 – English: Factual Texts
Secondary 1 students studied different types of factual texts, their features, and their contents. The students learned that factual texts provide factual information to the readers and those texts were all around us. They also learned that each text is written for a specific purpose and audience. Furthermore, the students learned to organize their ideas into writing by using an outline.
Here, they understood that a paragraph should have a main idea and supporting details. To apply their knowledge in practice, the students were asked to create a piece of factual writing entitled ‘My Friend’.
In this activity, the students were paired up (the students had to write about their partner) to gain data for their writing. Next, they outlined the main ideas and supporting details that they had obtained from the data. This activity not only lets the students know their friends better but also understand the process of creating good writing. ***
