Primary 6 – Maths: Waterfall Card

In unit 9 of Maths Class, students have learnt about Fractions, Decimals and Percentages. They practiced how to convert the fractions as decimals and percentages. They also learnt how to solve story word problems involving percentages concept. To review what they have learnt, students did a hands-on activity by making a waterfall card individually.

First, they started making a draft on their notebook about the contents of converting fractions, word problems of percentages and how to find equivalent value of time intervals in decimals. After the draft was approved by the teacher, students continued making the waterfall card by drawing the patterns, cutting and pasting them neatly, then writing the contents on the available square papers provided. At last, they decorated the card and tried to pull the card to make sure that it would work well.

Students enjoyed this challenging activity, especially when they made and pasted the cutting patterns. Sometimes, they found it challenging to make sure whether the card were working well or not when it was pulled. Nevertheless, they did not easily give up to find out more the incorrect steps that they missed to make better work.

From this activity, the students not only learnt to follow the steps based on the procedures but also learnt to be more independent in solving problems faced during the process. Besides, this activity encouraged students to improve their skills in seeing things from different perspective about welcoming the challenges more and getting used to them.
