Primary 5 – Science: Shadows
Primary 5 students learned about materials’ characteristics, which can be classified based on the light they transmit. They identified that objects are either transparent, translucent, or opaque depending on how much light can pass through them. First, students got information on the characteristics of transparent, translucent, and opaque materials by reading from P5 Science Pupil’s Book and having a class discussion with the teacher. Then, students observed, identified, and classified objects into transparent, translucent, and opaque based on the light they allowed to pass through them. After that, they presented the investigation result to the class. The students also learned that the light that shines through an object affects the formation of shadows. They investigated it by shining the flashlight on transparent, translucent, and opaque objects and found out that a transparent object has a barely visible shadow, and a translucent object has a shadow that is a little darker. An opaque object has a very dark shadow. ***
