Primary 5 – Science : Shadows
Primary 5 students learned about the characteristics of materials which can be classified based on the light they transmit. They identified that objects are either transparent, translucent or opaque depending on the amount of light that is able to pass through them.
First, they got information on the characteristics of transparent, translucent and opaque materials by reading from P5 Science Pupil’s Book and having a class discussion with the teacher.
Then, students observed, identified and classified objects into transparent, translucent and opaque based on the amount of light that the objects allow to pass through them. After that, they presented the investigation result to the class.
The students also learned that the amount of light that shines through an object effects the shadows formation. They investigated it by shining the flashlight on transparent, translucent and opaque objects and found out that: an object that is transparent has a shadow that is barely visible, an object that is translucent has a shadow that are a little darker and an object that is opaque has a very dark shadow.
