Primary 5 – English: Personification Poem
Throughout Unit 8, students read various poems written by famous poets. They learned to identify figurative language such as alliteration, simile, metaphor, and repetition and how to use them specifically for personification in a poem. During the lesson, students were reminded how to identify rhyme pairs from a poem. They also gained an understanding of positive and negative emotions and moods expressed through a poem. As a writing project, students were asked to write a personification poem. The poem consists of four to five verses. First, they chose strong feelings such as sleep, hungry, anger, sadness, happiness, or jealousy as a theme for their poem. They personified those feelings in the form of a poem. Students added rhyme pairs and another figurative language to the poem they made. After they had finished writing, students decorated their work. This work was done individually. ***
