Primary 5 – English : Homonym

A homonym is a word with the same spelling and pronunciation but different meanings. One example of homonyms is the word ‘leave,’ which means a part of a tree and a verb, as in ‘leave the room.’ In this meeting, students were asked to mention the examples of homonyms around them. It was pretty challenging since they needed to explain the context of each example they mentioned. During the lesson, students gave many examples, such as ‘orange’; ‘book’; ‘pen’; ‘patient’; ’star,’ and many others. They could correctly explain the contexts for each example. After the discussion, students worked in pairs to make sentences using homonym words they had mentioned. ***
