Primary 4 – Reading Program: Design My Book Cover

February is coming, and Primary 4 students will soon have Book Reference Time Phase 2. Book Reference Time improves reading skills, helping students expand their knowledge, develop critical thinking, and enhance their imagination. P4 students do some activities to keep reading fun.

One of the activities was designing a personalized book cover. The students designed a new cover for a book they’ve recently read. They drew a scene of the story on a piece of paper, and they coloured and decorated it using stickers and origami paper. Then, after that, the students presented their new cover in front of their teacher and friends.

This activity encouraged them to think about the story and express it visually. This activity allowed students to recall the story’s themes, characters, and settings while expressing creativity. By illustrating their interpretations of the story, students deepen their understanding of the book and develop their artistic skills.

The presentation also helped them practice communicating their idea based on their visual media clearly and focus on the details of the story. Additionally, presenting their redesigned covers to the class fostered discussion and peer learning, as students explained their design choices and interpretations.

This experience can serve as a strategy to make reading more enjoyable and cultivate lifelong reading habits that will benefit the students in both personal and intrapersonal skills.
