Primary 2 – English: Dare to Explain
In Unit 6, P2 students learnt about explanation texts with the theme “An Astronaut’s Life in Space.” Throughout the unit, they engaged in a series of activities to build their understanding of the topic and the text type. These activities included watching videos, composing questions to gather information, reading and writing simple explanation texts.
As their final project, students were given the opportunity to have a presentation on either “How Do Astronauts Live in Space?” or “How Does a Spacesuit Protect an Astronaut?” The presentations were conducted in the classroom on Wednesday, February 11th, 2026.
Before the presentation day, students chose their topic and prepared a script. In their script, they wrote an opening, a clear explanation of the topic, and a closing statement. This planning process helped them organize their ideas and explain the topic clearly. On the presentation day, however, students presented without reading from their scripts. Each student spoke for about three minutes. Setting a maximum time limit helped them stay focused and encouraged them to speak in a clear and systematic way.
Through this activity, students developed a better understanding of how to give explanations, both in written and spoken forms. They learnt that explaining a topic requires logical and organized thinking so the audience can understand the message clearly. In addition, knowing the topic and preparing their scripts improved their confidence in speaking English.
Although simple, this meaningful class presentation created a safe and supportive environment where students felt brave enough to speak in front of others. With proper preparation and understanding of the topic, they realized that presenting in front of audiences was not as frightening as they had previously thought.
