Early Year 2 – English: Don’t wake the lion!
EY2 excitedly played a fun game called “Don’t Wake the Lion!” to build and explore CVC words. In this interactive activity, students took turns picking plastic balls with letter on it from a bag. Working together, they collected letters to form simple words like dog, bed, and cat. After building a word, they matched it with the correct picture and wrote it down, giving them meaningful practice in reading, spelling, and writing.
The excitement rose each time someone picked the surprise lion ball. When this happened, all collected letters had to go back into the bag. This playful twist encouraged students to take turns, stay calm, and try again even when things didn’t go as planned.
To end the session, students proudly shared the words they had created and drew matching pictures. It was a joyful and purposeful learning experience that supported not only early literacy but also teamwork, resilience, and confidence. ***
